The Whistlefield Inn, Loch Eck, Argyll, ScotlandA Scottish Inn Offering Cosy Accommodation and Hearty Meals
As you drive along the A815 en route to the Whistlefield Inn, you will be charmed by the tranquility of Loch Eck that nestles against a dramatic mountainous backdrop.
Parts of the Inn itself date back as far as 1455 and if you want to experience traditional Scottish Inn hospitality at its best, you will not leave the Whistlefield disappointed. During the colder months, log fires crackle merrily in the bar and dining areas – if you are staying the night you can be guaranteed a good night's sleep as the woodsmoke, a hearty meal and a wee dram combine to lull you into the most delicious state of relaxation! Accommodation at The Whistlefield InnThe Whistlefield Inn offers 6 double and 2 twin rooms, all with en-suite facilities and hospitality tray. The rooms are warm, cosy and comfortable and all have benefited from a recent refurbishment. The peace and quiet of this entrancing rural location is enhanced in the summer months by the dawn chorus that gently wakes you in the morning. Dining at The Whistlefield InnThe full menu is available in the bar area, the restaurant or family room. The bar is a cozy, friendly area, suited to informal dining, the family room is great for those who have young children - puzzles, games and colouring books are provided - and the restaurant is ideal for special occasions, with the additional benefits of superb views over the Loch. Advance booking is required for the restaurant. The menu offers a good choice of hearty fair with some essentially Scottish dishes for local flavour. The grilled goat's cheese served with tangy red onion chutney and luscious Loch Awe smoked salmon are particularly delicious starters. For the main course, if you wish to try Scottish specialities, there is the Prime Aberdeenshire sirloin steak, boiled Ayrshire ham and, of course, haggis drizzled with Drambuie and served in the traditional way with 'neeps and tatties' – potatoes and a buttery mixture of turnips and carrots! A vegetarian version of haggis is also available. Fresh local fish is also served: West Coast fillet of salmon, Tarbert haddock (breaded or battered) and Islay peat smoked haddock. Do remember to save room for a pudding – a hot favourite is the sticky toffee pudding served with ice-cream. The absence of a cheese board on the menu is surprising given the variety of local cheeses that is available but this is just a minor point when balanced against the menu as a whole. The separate under 12s menu provides an adequate choice for children. Toast your Stay with a Whisky!Of course, any Scottish meal must be rounded off with a 'wee dram' and The Whistlefield Inn boasts a wide selection of fine Scottish malt and blended whiskies. Best served unadulterated and preferably sitting by the fireside with good company, this is the perfect way to round off your evening in this most delightful of Scottish Inns.
