Although It’s a small town, with a population of around 14,000 with 7,000 university students on top of that; there is much more to St Andrews than golf, the town is packed with history and is home to Scotland’s oldest university. The old part of the town is a joy to explore, with its narrow winding streets, interesting shops, pavement cafes and an all-embracing sense of history.
St Andrews has played a major part in the history of Scotland and remnants of some of its ancient buildings still remain. Visitors to the town should take the time to explore the 12th century cathedral and St Andrews Castle the home of the Archbishops of St Andrews. Its oldest remains also date from the 12th century.
