The Scotland, New Zealand and Romania teams all play at Murrayfield in the Rugby World Cup 2007, so to find a good hotel in or near Edinburgh you should book now

The 2007 Rugby World Cup arrives at the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh in September, when Scotland play Romania and then the big match when Scotland play one of the teams most fancied to win the competition, New Zealand. This Pool C game on Sunday September 23rd is sure to attract a sell-out crowd, and hotels in Edinburgh are sure to sell-out too, so if you want to find accommodation in or near the city centre, or a hotel near Murrayfield, you should book before it's too late.

Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa, 1 Festival Square

The 5-star Sheraton is used by the Scotland rugby team before and after internationals, when the players make full use of the extensive spa and fitness facilities. If you want to do some sightseeing then Edinburgh Castle is close by, as is the western end of Princes Street. From here you can walk to Murrayfield Stadium, which many fans so, stopping off here and there for some light refreshment on the way.

Le Monde Hotel, 16 George Street

One of the new wave of stylishly designed and boutique hotels that have been opening in Edinburgh, Le Monde is on the lively George Street where every other place seems to be a new bar or restaurant. Le Monde has its own bar, nightclub, brasserie and restaurant as well as 18 luxury suites, each themed around one of the world's great cities, from Marrakech to Los Angeles. Le Monde won the 2006 Scottish Hotel Design Award.

Allison House Hotel, 17 Mayfield Gardens

This small family-run hotel has just 11 rooms, but they are all large and the facilities are excellent, with free wifi access throughout the building and welcoming decanters of sherry and whisky in the room when you arrive. You might or might not meet the owner, David Hinnrichs, who is a passionate rugby fan and plans to head off to France for the rest of the World Cup tournament, leaving his wife to run the hotel!

Murrayfield Hotel, 18 Corstorphine Road

You can't get much closer to Murrayfield Stadium than this, provided the hotel isn't sold out, which it might well be. But it's still a good hotel to know about for future rugby matches in Edinburgh, as you can hear the stadium's roar from here, but it is also only a 15-minute walk (or a bus ride) into the city centre for those who want to do some sightseeing too. There are also several famous rugby bars within a few minutes of the Murrayfield, which has its own large sports bar too.
