Only 20 miles from Edinburgh and set in 460 acres, the exclusive luxury suites at Lennoxlove House, which dates to the 1300s, open to guests after major £3m restoration

Lennoxlove House in East Lothian is only 20 miles from the centre of Edinburgh, and is in the middle of 460 acres of land. It is one of Scotland's most important historic homes, dating back as it does to the 1300s and owned today by the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton. It now has chance to establish itself as one of the top places to stay in Scotland.

On 18 July 2007 this luxury historic house hotel re-opens its doors to guests after a major £3m restoration project. The new Lennoxlove House will have just 11 luxury hotel suites, and guests will also be able to enjoy the splendid reception rooms, which contain some of the finest art held in a private collection in Scotland. Butler service is also available, making guests feel as if they are enjoying life as the private guests in an ancient Scottish country house hotel.

Guests at this luxury Scottish hotel will be able to look out over the Lammermuir Hills, and enjoy traditional country pursuits such as archery and falconry, as well as more modern outdoor activities like clay-pigeon shooting and 4x4 off-road driving. The best of Scottish golfing is also available, with access available to several East Lothian courses, including the Archerfield Links, rated as one of the top 100 golf courses in the world.

Indoors, the new suites have vast bathrooms, with French wallpaper and Chinese silk embroideries. Rooms have been decorated in keeping with the opulent feel of the house itself. One of its many interesting features is a carved ebony bed, which once belonged to Napoleon's sister, who gave it to the 10th Duke of Hamilton. The four-poster bed has a headboard crafted from mother-of-pearl, an elaborately-paneled canopy, and is inlaid with tortoiseshell and ivory.

Another historic gem in the house is a 15th-century French silver casket which was given to Mary Queen of Scots by her first husband. Among many other items also on display are the death mask of Mary Queen of Scots and the map and compass which were carried by Rudolf Hess, Hitler's deputy, when he made his mysterious visit to Scotland during World War II.

In addition to private bookings for those who want to sample the best in Scotland's 5-star luxury hotels, Lennoxlove House will also be available for weddings and corporate events. Tours of Lennoxlove House are also available for groups and individuals.
