If you are coming to Scotland on vacation and have more than one spirit in mind then you can find ghosts taking up residence all over.
The Scots have a worldwide reputation for their hospitality, but guests in some of the country's top hotels, pubs, inns and guesthouses, might find themselves with an extra uninvited guest sharing their room.
Scotland, due to its history has a wide range of ghostly tales to tell. Unsurprisingly many of the hotels, inns and guesthouses are said to be haunted as well as the old castles (of course). Whilst you can certainly find accommodation in some of the old castles, hotels are often the much more affordable and “spooktacular”.
The identity of theses ghosts are often difficult to pinpoint but the form they take are wide and varied. It could be a former owner who wishes to continue serving his guests, former guests with mysterious histories, murdered former residents or even an unknown mischevious presence who will torment the unsuspecting visitor like the naked man who hammers at the window of an Aberdeenshire hotel and when approached simply floats away (source: Paranormaldatabase.com). The types of ghosts are almost endless and whatever your “tastes” you will almost certainly find some of interest.
At the other end of the country, The Old Post Horn Inn in Crawford plays host to a young infant which was run over by a coach and four horses outside the inn, but is still heard today. In fact, the same Inn appears to play host to a young girl whose exact identity is unknown, but it is assumed that she is the daughter of a one-time landlord of the inn.
Some castles are however affordable and perhaps you should consider Culcreuch Castle Hotel where sightings of a severed animal head which chases the unsuspecting around the battlements. Another area of that hotel which should be avoided is the bar where some customers refuse to sit due to the sensation of being touched. Of course, that might be due to spirits of another kind.
Of course, staying in a ghostly Inn might not be enough and you may wish to complete your tour of Scotland with a look at the attractions which are off the beaten track albeit with the added attraction of a spook or two. These range from the former RAF(Royal Air Force) base at Montrose which has an "army" of military activity. Or, if you are looking for something more central, try the Museum of Transport in Glasgow.
Alternatively, do you fancy a night out at the theatre? You never know who or what you might end up sitting next to.
