In 2011 the Jumeirah will be the newest of Glasgow's luxury hotels when it opens in the business district, with spa, gym, bars, 5-star suites and serviced apartments.

The Dubai-based Jumeirah luxury hotel group has announced their plans to open what will become their fifth European hotel – the Jumeirah Glasgow Hotel.

The most famous of the Jumeirah hotels is the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, the tallest all-suite hotel in the world and rated by many as the world's best hotel. The group also owns the luxurious Jumeirah Carlton Tower and the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel, both in London's Knightsbridge, and the Jumeirah Essex House in New York's Manhattan (voted North America's Leading Hotel at the World Travel Awards 2007).

With a pedigree like that, it's obvious that their Glasgow hotel is sure to be something special. It will be located in the International Financial Services District and close to the city center, providing 160 deluxe rooms and suites, and a further 85 serviced apartments for anyone staying in the city on a longer visit, or who just prefers the comfort and privacy of a serviced apartment.

Jumeirah Glasgow Hotel Facilities

In addition to the luxury guest rooms, suites and apartments, Jumeirah's luxury hotel in Glasgow will have:

  • Talise Wellness Spa
  • gym
  • rooftop cocktail lounge
  • several bars and restaurants
  • Business and conference facilities
  • dedicated club lounge
  • 630-seater ballroom

Other Glasgow Luxury Hotels

The Jumeirah will be welcome as there are a limited number of luxury hotels in Glasgow. Some of the best of the city's current 5-star hotels are:

Radisson SAS Glasgow

301 Argyle Street, Glasgow G2 8DL

Consistently voted Hotel of the Year in various travel awards, the Radisson SAS is right in the city center, across from Central Station, and close to both the business and best shopping districts. Guests have access to LA Fitness and LA Beauty facilities, and a plus point of Radisson hotels is the free high-speed wireless internet throughout the building and in all guest rooms.

Hilton Glasgow

1 William Street, Glasgow G3 8HT

Currently rated by many as the best hotel in Glasgow, the Hilton will need to look to its laurels when the Jumeirah opens its doors. The Hilton boasts an excellent fitness center with a 15-metre pool, an Executive Lounge, its own shopping mall, The Bar cocktail bar, and one of the best restaurants in Glasgow: Cameron's.

Hotel du Vin

1 Devonshire Gardens, Glasgow G12 0UX

The address reveals that this is the new Hotel du Vin version of what has long been Glasgow's best boutique hotel (before the phrase boutique hotel was invented): One Devonshire Gardens. The hotel has won countless awards, and is the favored Glasgow choice of many celebrities. It has 49 rooms and suites, a new bar and bistro, a gymnasium, and a range of beauty treatments.
