Exclusive Use Luxury House in Scotland with GolfHistoric Lennoxlove House near Edinburgh has 5-Star Hotel Comfort
Historic Lennoxlove House near Edinburgh in Scotland, seat of the Dukes of Hamilton, has guided tours and can be booked as an exclusive-use hotel for weddings and events.
For most visitors a guided tour of the beautiful and historic Lennoxlove House is the only way to see its huge collection of paintings and rare items, such as the death mask of Mary Queen of Scots, or the room in which the late Queen Mother used to stay. However, the House can also be booked for exclusive use by guests wanting somewhere special to celebrate a wedding, anniversary, birthday, or for a corporate team-building event – or just to make use of the golf and other activities on offer. Lennoxlove House ActivitiesA whole range of activities can be organised for anyone booking the exclusive use of this luxury house, like their own private hotel. A major attraction for golfers is the proximity of the championship golf course at the Renaissance Golf Club. The Renaissance is a private members club, with a course designed by golf architect Tom Doak. It is one of the best and most prestigious golf courses in Scotland, the home of golf, and guests at Lennoxlove can obtain personal invitations to play from the Chief Executive at Renaissance. Other activities available at Lennoxlove for weddings, special events or for corporate events include wine, whisky or champagne tasting, quad bikes, off-road driving, adventure rallies and other country pursuits, croquet, mystery evenings, falconry, and many other fun things to do. Staying and Dining at Lennoxlove HouseGuests booking Lennoxlove House for their exclusive use have 11 luxury bedrooms available to them, sleeping up to 26 people depending on the arrangements. One of these bedrooms, the Lady's Bower, contains the bed slept in by Mary Queen of Scots. Yes, guests can sleep in that bed, which could make for quite a special wedding night. Although the rooms are historic, with tasteful antiques, beautiful views, and claw-foot bathtubs, they also have modern amenities such as wide-screen TVs and high-speed internet. Booking Lennoxlove exclusively includes a hearty Scottish breakfast, but lunches and dinners can also be provided. These are catered by Heritage Portfolio, one of Scotland's leading hospitality providers. Heritage caters not only for many of Scotland's galleries, museums and country houses, they are also the caterers for the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and responsible for the catering for the Queen's Garden Party at Holyroodhouse every summer. Credentials come no better than that. Lennoxlove House Guided ToursLennoxlove House has a fascinating history and one of the most breathtaking private fine art and antique collections in Scotland. The house dates back to the 14th century and was once home to the Maitland family. William Maitland was Secretary of State to Mary Queen of Scots, and Lennoxlove contains some rare items such as the bed Mary Queen of Scots slept in, and her death mask, her ring, her silver casket, and many other items including her 'passport' from 1565-66. The 14th Duke of Hamilton bought Lennoxlove in 1946, and it is now owned by the 15th Duke, the most important peer in Scotland. The Duke is the official key holder for Holyroodhouse Palace in Edinburgh. The Hamilton collection includes more fascinating historical items such as the map used by Rudolf Hess when he flew solo from Germany to Scotland in 1941 to meet the Duke of Hamilton. Also on display is the propeller from the plane in which the 14th Duke became the first man to fly over Everest in 1933. Guided tours of this historic country house are given from Easter to October, although private guided tours can also be arranged. In 2009 tours run on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. See the Guided Tours page of the website for times. In 2009, tours cost £5 for an adult and £3 for under-12s.
